Understanding Proprietary Blends: What "Dose Undisclosed" Really Means
"Proprietary blend" means a supplement lists every ingredient by name but does not disclose how much of each is actually inside — only the total blend weight.
HorseBoost is transparent about which nine ingredients it uses, but like many gummies in this category, it does not break out individual doses beyond caffeine.
What a proprietary blend actually is
A proprietary blend groups multiple named ingredients under one combined weight on the Supplement Facts panel. It differs from a fully disclosed label, where each ingredient has its own listed milligram amount.
Why brands use them
Brands often cite formula-protection reasons for using blends. The practical effect for buyers is that you know what's in the product, but not necessarily how much of each ingredient you're getting relative to the doses used in published research.
The math worth doing before you buy
If a label shows, for example, a 9-ingredient, 82mg total blend, that averages under 10mg per ingredient — before accounting for the fact that ingredients are rarely distributed evenly. Compare that to typical studied doses: Ashwagandha (300–600mg), Maca (around 2,000mg), or L-Arginine (3,000–6,000mg), and the gap becomes clear.
How HorseBoost handles this
HorseBoost names all nine of its ingredients and discloses caffeine's dose individually (5mg). The remaining eight share the rest of the 82mg blend without individual breakdown — a limitation we think is worth stating plainly rather than glossing over. See the full ingredient-by-ingredient math on our ingredients page.
Questions worth asking any supplement brand
Is the total blend weight disclosed? Are any individual doses broken out? Do the doses align with published research, or fall well short of it? Answering these honestly, even when the answer isn't flattering, is part of what we try to do here.
